Congratulations to Danny's Odyssey of
the Mind team It was a difficult day for the team, but they made it! The problem they participated in was called "Odyssey Road Rally" and the team needed to create a vehicle that worked under battery power, but the motor could not be a motor just for movement; the motor had to be used in a different way typically and then they had to modify it to propel their vehicle...and carry one of them. Then, they had to use the vehicle to complete 4 sports-related tasks. In practice on Thursday April 10th, everything went well. On the way down to Belleville on Friday, when they took their cart out to check on it, they had to do some minor repairs.
Then, 2 hours before the competition,
when they pulled their vehicle out for the performance, all of the wall
structures cracked and broke. So, they tried their best to fix it and
when the PVC was skewed and tipping, it was too big for the space it had
to fit within, causing a bit of a delay to the start of their
performance. It was very stressful, and the cart, being a bit out of
square, couldn't perform the last task---but it ran and did everything
else, which was great! So, now it's off to Maryland the last few days of May for the World Competition!

The Springers woke into the new year
in Galveston Island TX, which was the tail end of our winter camping
trip. We couldn't find a campground with an open site in central Florida
to do a Universal Studios/Park trip, so we decided just to pack up and
head south.
We stayed in Missouri and Arkansas on the way down... and on the way back, we stayed in Louisiana, Arkansas, and Southern Illinois. You get the prime sites when no one is there! We had 2 days of good weather and temperatures over 65°. On one of the days, we went to see the Houston Texans take on the Jacksonville Jaguars, and being the last game of the season with the Jags already in the playoffs, the Texans kicked their butts 42-17. |

Right before the holiday trip, we hosted a Packers/Bears party at the house. Needless to say, the outcome wasn't pleasant (neither was the NFC Championship last week...) but the Bears fans were having a good time. Of course, Uncle Lester had to spice it up with a costume...

With the new year comes a new SHAMROX SEASON! So, with our good seats in 2008, we welcomed Panos, Wasson, and the gang to the Sears Centre on Jan 5th. DeAnn high fived Stan Mikita and saw Robbie Gould, and the game was great....even though they lost.
