HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS WITH THE SPRINGERS

For Thanksgiving weekend, the family ventured up to Rome to hang with the Benedetto family. Whenever we go there, about 99% of the time, the topic of choice is food... specifically "What are we eating next?" Randy and Steve love to cook, so they plan out the menu weeks in advance, but also plan on experiments too. This year's main meal was Fried Turkey, Beer Can Chicken, and a Roast which is made in the campfire. Needless to say, we don't go hungry!

Upper left: The roast is coated in salt and placed in a paper bag. Then it sits in the campfire for about an hour. (You can sort of see it in the center of the logs...)

Above: Nick shows us the chickens which sit on beer cans filled with beer as they cook.

Left: Your chefs, Steve and Randy, get ready to serve the fried turkey. YUM!

HALLOWEEN HAPPENINGS
WITH THE SPRINGERS

In our neighborhood, the mode of transportation is the John Deere. So, Tim (as "Death") and Danny (as the "King" that should be dead..) received one candy bar and decided that was enough! Instead, they spent the evening dancing in the trailer with
Sarah (as an Angel or something...) driving them around all night.

Above left, Batman greats the Captain with some Captain! (Another tradition in our neighborhood...)
Above right, Taylor and Brittany along with Claire and some other friends were one of the few groups who came by.

...is in the books!

What a fun day and evening! There's so much to recap that we would be typing for days...
Thanks to:

  • Mary for bringing and serving all the shots

  • Sue for tending bar

  • Fernando's (Adriana & Fernando) for the great food

  • The Jensens, Rumores, and Zubryckis for bringing desserts

  • Everyone for bringing drinks--and please know that if you want some beer, stop by our house anytime because we have a LOT left!

  • DJ for his great sketch of Randy as Ms. Progressive during his swimsuit competition

  • The Greves for the cool martini candle

  • Cindy the candle lady (and Gary) for the AWESOME key lime rum cake

  • The Gorniaks for bringing the Baggo

  • The Greco, Dabrowski, and Reynolds families for helping to clean up (and everyone else the night of that DeAnn didn't know about...)

Check out the pictures and please make sure we have your email addresses
so you can come again next year! (2nd week of August again!!)

CONGRATULATIONS TO
KAROL & BRIAN LORENCE!

Karol joined the family on May 17th when she married Brian in front of both the Coats and Lorence families. Above, Cassandra gives her dad the groom's cup for the reception, while Jimmy provided his mom with the bride's. Below, Danny and Jimmy pose before the wedding...and we think they're now 3rd cousins (by marriage). (They've been friends since they were about 3...) Then, we have Mike & Greg acting normal (Greg only has a coke believe it or not...)

Congratulations to Danny's Odyssey of the Mind team
who took SECOND PLACE at the state tournament in their division on April 12th
and went on to compete in Maryland June 1-3.

It was a difficult day for the team, but they made it! The problem they participated in was called "Odyssey Road Rally" and the team needed to create a vehicle that worked under battery power, but the motor could not be a motor just for movement; the motor had to be used in a different way typically and then they had to modify it to propel their vehicle...and carry one of them. Then, they had to use the vehicle to complete 4 sports-related tasks. In practice on Thursday April 10th, everything went well. On the way down to Belleville on Friday, when they took their cart out to check on it, they had to do some minor repairs.

Then, 2 hours before the competition, when they pulled their vehicle out for the performance, all of the wall structures cracked and broke. So, they tried their best to fix it and when the PVC was skewed and tipping, it was too big for the space it had to fit within, causing a bit of a delay to the start of their performance. It was very stressful, and the cart, being a bit out of square, couldn't perform the last task---but it ran and did everything else, which was great!

In Maryland, the team did awesome during their performance, scoring higher than the 4th place finisher in their very large division. However, the 2nd competition, Spontaneous, where they have to think and act as a group with a sort of verbal "pop quiz" wasn't as successful. In the end, the kids ranked 28th out of 60 teams.

The Springer family camper did the Circle Tour of Lake Michigan in June. Before that, we went to Texas during the holidays. The pictures have to be re-uploaded...

Tim's season for the McHenry Warriors Lacrosse team is also over. Was a fun year, only the team's 2nd in the NWS LAX league. They ended up winning only one game, but almost defeated the undefeated Cary Grove Trojans on April 30th, only losing 4-3. Tim moved from defense to goalie mid year and will be trying out for the tournament team this week, before he starts football in just a few weeks... (Yes, summer hasn't even started and we're talking football!)
